Skin Analysis
The skin is constantly adapting to a variety of different conditions
with each of us having our individual matrix or composition. There
are many subtle characteristics that define skin types and skin
conditions. There are three main skin types and six sub categories
that are classified as skin conditions. In general most people have
one predominant skin type accompanied by one or more skin condition.
Skin Types
Skin types form part of our inherent makeup and are the result of
sebaceous (oil gland) activity and function. The three main categories
are normal, dry and oily, the degrees of which may vary. You may
experience more than one skin type or condition at any given time;
for example, oily skin that experiences dehydration, or a dry skin
type with an oily t-zone and normal cheeks. Skin types also occur
in varying degrees such as slightly dry - very dry; or slightly
oily - very oily. This is usually the result of incorrect or excessive
product usage.
Skin Conditions
Skin conditions tend to be lifestyle related and develop over a
period of time. They can be associated with the different skin types
(with the exception of acne, which is usually not found in conjunction
with dry skin). The most common conditions include: Mature, dehydrated/devitalised,
combination, sensitive, couperose and acne vulgaris.
Skin problems usually manifest as a result of underlying causes
such as a build up of toxins in the blood, hormonal imbalances,
inadequate water intake, lack of physical activity, environmental
and climatic conditions, smoking and stress. If the body is deprived
of the necessary vitamins, minerals, enzymes and amino acids that
are derived from a balanced diet and healthy lifestyle, cellular
reproduction and growth are impaired. Beautiful skin requires nourishment
both internally and externally.
Rather than focusing on particular skin types and conditions our
products are synergistically formulated with an emphasis on ingredients
that balance and equalise existing skin conditions, and aid signs
of visible aging. A general overview assists with ascertaining skin
requirements and identifying suitable products pertinent to the
individual. It is best to diagnose skin type first and to then treat
the skin condition accordingly.
