Characteristics of Sensitive Skin:

  • Sensitive skin is prone to reaction as stratum corneum is damaged resulting in deeper penetration of products
  • Sensitive skin's chemical makeup may react with a products chemical components
  • Sensitive skin may occur with any skin type
  • Sensitive skin easily becomes hot and flushed
  • Sensitive skin can have a red, blotchy and irritated appearance
  • Sensitive skin may cause itching and burning sensations

Some Common Causes of Sensitive Skin are:

  • Allergies
  • Chemical sensitivities
  • Heredity
  • Climatic changes, pollution levels, over-exposure to sun, wind and extreme temperatures
  • Diet
  • Alcohol consumption
  • Even over-stimulation / exertion can cause sensitive skin.

Suggested Treatments for Sensitive Skin are:

  • Follow routine as per skin type, being careful with product choice
  • Avoid over-stimulation
  • Use Earth Mineral Mask, but be aware that it may initially cause redness if left on for too long or if not kept moist

Skin sensitivities should be differentiated from allergic reactions to certain substances. Allergic reactions may occur with all skin types. These are usually idiosyncratic and often difficult to diagnose. Sensitive skin is due to a genetic predisposition or may be sensitised due to harsh treatment/products.
