Nut & Seed Oils
Nut & seed oils are readily absorbed by the skin and are used to nourish and give
energy to the skin and body. They are needed to create new cells
and for other important bodily processes. Most vegetable oils contain
vitamins such as A, D & E that are necessary for growth and
repair. They stimulate the skin to function more efficiently and
assist with improving circulation. They soften, protect and hydrate
the dermis making it more pliable and allowing effective retention
of moisture.
Only cold-pressed virgin nut and seed oils are utilised in Mukti
Botanicals body, hair and skin care products. They have wonderful soothing,
lubricating and nourishing qualities. Each of the oils in Mukti Botanicals' range is
verified with comprehensive data including the precise definition of the botanical species,
country of origin, method of production, the part of the plant used,
and organic verification.
Essential Fatty Acids (EFA’S)
Our bodies do not have the ability to manufacture highly unsaturated
fatty acids, such as linolenic and linoleic, or respectively, omega
3 and omega 6 fatty acids. Deficiencies of these acids can aid the
aging process as the skin becomes drier, or diametrically, the sebaceous
glands become overactive resulting in acne or oily skin. Hair
may become less lustrous and nails may become weak and brittle.
One of the many benefits of EFA’s is their effectiveness
when applied topically. This occurs by the utilisation of the dermal
skin cells that assist in their absorption. Skin conditions and
disorders that have responded well to topical applications of EFA’s
include:
- Fissured or cracked skin
- Acne
- Seborrhoea, dermatitis
- Aging and sun damaged skin
- Eczema
- Dehydrated/dry/dull skin
- Hyper-pigmented skin
- Reduction of scar tissue both as a preventative and curative
- Varicose and compression ulcers
Antioxidants
Antioxidants are substances that prevent the accelerated oxidation of nutrients
and counter the effect of free radicals in the body. They are also
used in cosmetics to prevent oils and fats from becoming rancid.
Some nut and seed oils containing poly-unsaturated oils, as well
as some essential oils, particularly those rich in turpines, have
a tendency to oxidise when exposed to air resulting in rancidity.
To prolong the life of Mukti Botanical formulations, we use a natural
and skin-compatible antioxidant that is a CO2 extract of Rosemary
and is as effective as its synthetic counterparts. Another benefit
is that it is only needed in very small concentrations of 0.05%
to 0.1%.
Clays
Due to its numerous beneficial effects, clay has been used both
internally and externally by ancient civilisations for many thousands
of years. The natural and additional properties are due to the structure
itself and the many mineral salts that it contains. The different
colours are derived from variations in mineral compounds. Clay
is naturally healing, absorbent, stimulating and activates immune
functions. It assists in re-balancing whilst strengthening assimilation
functions. The absorptive capabilities of clays make
them remarkable additives for cosmetics.
As clay has a natural affinity with water, a clay masque produces
heat. The effect of this stimulation induces the sudoriferous
(sweat) glands to produce perspiration and increases blood circulation.
This combined action assists with the elimination process of wastes
and toxins.
The clays used in Mukti Botanicals facial and skin care products are all Australian-derived.
The quality and mineral composition are determined by their origin.
They are naturally extracted and sun-dried.
Liposomes
Lipsomes are microscopic sacs or spheres obtained from naturally occurring
phospholipids. Liposomes have the unique ability to trap substances
that will dissolve in oil or water. They act as a delivery system
by penetrating the surface of the skin to its underlying layers
while depositing essential ingredients along the way. They assist
with:
- Improving cutaneous hydration
- Visibly improving skin texture and glow
- Reducting scaliness and roughness of skin
- Decreasing the depth of wrinkles due to re-hydration
Gels & Gums
Both laponite (sodium magnesium silicate) and amigel (sclerotium
rolfsii) are natural vegetable gums known as hydrocolloids. This
means that they do not dissolve in water, but absorb their weight
to form a thick jelly-like substance. Vegetable gums such as guar
and xanthum are polysaccharides that are sugar chains with a high
molecular weight allowing them to absorb additional ingredients.
Vitamin Additives
When applied topically, they help to prevent damage from free radicals.
It has been scientifically proven that vitamins assist with rejuvenating
skin from the outside in by penetration to the dermis where
they are utilised by the germinative cells. Vitamins A, C, D and
E are excellent synergistic companions in skin care formulas. All
vitamins used in Mukti Botanicals skin care products are from natural
sources as opposed to chemically synthetised vitamins that are commonly
used in skin care formulations.
Preservatives
Preservatives are used in cosmetic formulations to prevent the growth of moulds
and bacteria. All cosmetics, just like food, will eventually go rancid
and grow microorganisms regardless of how they are preserved. The
chemicals commonly used in cosmetic formulations, such as
parabens, are far more toxic and cause more reactions than the
bacteria from which they are suppose to protect us.
(Refer to this dictionary of toxic ingredients in cosmetics).
To overcome this, we
use natural preservatives that are effective in low doses and
do not create skin sensitivities or allergic reactions.
Guideline for Selection of Raw Ingredients
- Must not be chemically synthesised
- Preferably from a certified organic source
- Must be potent and active when applied to the skin
- Must be non-toxic and safe enough to ingest
- Must be beneficial to ones overall health
- Must be naturally extracted
